Building a 300 Blackout AR 15 On a Budget

Posted by on

300 Blackout AR 15s are the new, cool black rifles everyone wants. They’ve been made popular by special warfare operators and those semi-famous guys on YouTube sporting $x,000-dollar AR 15s chambered in the whisper round. But that ain’t you, and that’s okay.

Today, we’re going to show you how to build a wicked 300 Blackout Rifle or Pistol on a budget. Without pitching sales too much here, guys, our full-built 300 Blackout uppers and lower parts kits are simultaneously some of the most affordable and highest quality on the market today – but we’ll get into that in a moment.

Before we start listing suggestions for what exact parts you want to look into for your budget 300 Blackout Rifle or Pistol, let’s hit the critical components. You’re going to need the following five things:

  1.       Full-built upper with gas system
  2.       Bolt carrier group and charging handle
  3.       Stripped or 80% lower
  4.       Lower parts kit
  5.       Buffer and buffer tube, spring, *and buttstock

*Pistol builders skip the buttstock; consider looking at the KAK Shockwave Arm Brace

Lucky for you, we’ve got you covered on all pieces you need to go from a box of gun parts to a fully built, functioning, accurate-as-Hell 300 Blackout rifle or pistol. Now that we’ve established this list of must-haves, let’s look at what you can find for a budget build:

Building a Budget 300 Blackout AR 15 Pistol

Pistol uppers are going to be less expensive, hands down. If you want to own the title of this article and go for the most budget-minded 300 Blackout build, you should be ordering an upper with a barrel length that’s less than 16”.

The Most Affordable 300 Blackout Pistol Upper

Our 7.5”-barreled pistol upper features a 7” free-floating quad rail and includes everything you need to pull it out of the box, slap it on a lower, and start shooting. With this upper you’re getting a 4150 Chromoly steel barrel (better than economy 4140 barrels) with a heat treatment process that brings the rifling and steel to a Mohs hardness rating of RC 28-to-32. That means your rifling will be super-tough, more accurate, and longer-lasting.

You’re getting a 1:7 twist rate that reliably shoots supersonic and subsonic loads. The 7” free-float handguard has four Picatinny rails that cover up a low-profile gas block and pistol gas tube. You’re also getting a chrome-lined BCG and charging handle. This is one of the least expensive 300 Blackout Pistol Uppers you can buy on the market, making it a great place to start.

The Most Affordable 300 Blackout AR 15 Rifle Upper

Our 16”-barreled rifle upper sports the basic necessities to get you into perhaps the most affordable 300 Blackout rifle you can build. A tried and proven A2 handguard accompanies a simple A2 front sight post to keep things simple and affordable – but quality doesn’t suffer here.

You’re still getting a best-in-class 4150 Chromoly steel barrel with heat treatment, obtaining that hardness rating of RC 28 to 32. This is less expensive than a chrome-lined barrel while affording the same reliability, barrel-length and better accuracy even still. A 1:8 twist rate handles both loads wonderfully, and you’re also getting a chrome-lined bolt carrier group and charging handle.

A Budget 300 Blackout AR 15 Lower

This is even easier than those simple and affordable uppers: You can pick up one of our parts kits and a stripped lower, or you can opt for an 80% lower and be a proud, true home-built rifle owner. Our 80% lower and jig combo kits are less expensive than some stripped lowers by themselves, and once you buy one, you can build as many lowers as you want for the least money possible.

A Once-and-Done 300 Blackout AR 15 Kit

If piecing together ain’t your thing, you can get it all done and over with in one go. Take a look at our 300 Blackout Pistol or Rifle Kits and you’ll find everything you need from muzzle to buttstock – all you need is an 80 lower jig. Trust us, the build process to complete an 80 lower is so easy that you can do it in an afternoon without ever having touched a hand tool in your life.

Once you’ve finished that, you’ll have a complete 300 Blackout Rifle or Pistol that’s still hundreds of dollars less expensive when compared to a retail rifle with similar build specs. To be sure, while this is the most affordable way to own a whisper pistol or rifle, none of our uppers or lowers are “entry level” – each is built with the best barrel steel and finishing processes available, with high quality, free-floating handguards, low-profile gas systems, and ISO 9002 machining tolerances used – specifications often only found on premium brand rifles.
